Dominican basketball girls prepare for Centrobasket 2021- March 22, 2021
The Dominican women's basketball team has been preparing for several weeks for its participation in the 2021 Centrobasket Championship for Women, which will be played from March 24 to 28 in El Salvador, the Federation reported on Tuesday Dominican Basketball (Fedombal). The Dominican team will face the teams of Costa Rica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the hosts of El Salvador in a free-for-all, Fedombal said in a statement. The Creoles will leave on Sunday the 21st for the Central American country and their first commitment will be on Wednesday the 24th against Cuba, at 11:00 pm in El Salvador, (2:00 am GMT and 9:00 pm Dominican time); on Thursday the 25th they will play against Puerto Rico and on Friday the 26th they will face the Virgin Islands, at the same time as the first day. On Saturday 27 they will collide with the Salvadoran hosts, at 8:00 pm, local time, 11:00 GTM and 6:00 pm in the Dominican Republic); and on Sunday they will play a match with Costa Rica at 5:00 pm local time (6:00 pm GTM and 3:00 Dominican time). The contest is organized by the Salvadoran Basketball Federation (Fesabal), led by Yamil Bukele, honorary president of the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (INDES). The best four teams from the Women's Centrobasket will qualify for the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2021, still without a venue confirmed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the note said. Cuban coach Ariel Portuondo will be the leader of the Quisqueyan squad, assisted by Miguel Reyes (Moreno), who trains in various sports venues. Portuondo stressed that the team trains daily in two sessions, morning and afternoon, as a way to keep the players in optimal physical condition for the demanding international competition in the Central American city of San Salvador, in El Salvador. He said that so far it has a shortlist of about 24 players, from which the best 12 of them will be drawn from a mix of veteran and novice players, including team captain Sugeiry Monsac (186-F/C-81), as well as Yamell Abreu, Marian Soto, Yuleidy Zapata, Genesis Evangelista (170-G-93), Carola Hernandez, Jennifer Jimenez and Naomi Cuevas. He highlighted the integration in the coming days of the residents in Spain Yohanna Morton and Yamile Rodriguez, while the newcomers are Angela Jimenez, Maria Marte, Isamery Telleria, Nurisleisy Batista, Dangely Vinicio, Elemi Colome, Yenifer Ramirez, Yulesca Ramirez and Cesarina Capellan, among others. |
